• Width (Fits Opening): The dimensions listed in the menu refer to the opening size you will need between the brickwork of existing posts. We have already included the space you will need for the hinges and latch in this measurement; therefore, you should not make any further adjustments for these components.

• Physical Height: This is the actual height of the product measured from the underside of the framework to the highest point. We have made no provision for ground clearance within this height dimension.

Example Ordering Size

If the opening width between masonry walls or existing posts measures 991mm, you will need to order a gate that will "fit an opening of 991mm".

Do You Need Metal Gate Posts?

If you want to put the gate somewhere where there isn't an existing structure to which you can fasten the hinges and latch, you'll need to add metal posts. In these situations, you must remember that the posts need more space.

Example: A gate to "fit an opening of 991mm" fitted using 2 x 50mm metal posts will require a total space of 1091mm.

Metal Posts: When posts are required, you must ensure that they are the proper type and size to provide the correct level of support. When installing these items, you should set them into the ground and support them using concrete.

Installation: You must install the product properly to be safe and long-lasting. Always follow the installation instructions provided with your product. Before commencing any installation work, we recommend you first check that the structure is suitable and capable of taking the additional weight of the gate. 

Width: The width dimensions we display in the drop-down menu at the top of the page refer to the opening size you will need. These measurements already include the space needed for the hinges and latch. It does not refer to the physical width of the gate.
