Winchester 6ft High Wrought Iron Style Metal Estate Gates Specification

• Winchester gates are manufactured in the UK from solid steel components.

• Available to buy online in a variety of sizes to suit most residential driveways.

• Constructed with 20mm x 8mm solid metal frames, 10mm infill bars and 10mm x 3mm decorative scrolls.

• Supplied with adjustable hinges, latch and drop bolt.

• Double metal gates are primed black (undercoat) and must be painted to the colour of your choice before you install them.

Ordering Sizes

• Width (Fits Opening): This measurement refers to the opening size you will need between existing brickwork or posts. These dimensions already contain the space required for the hinges and latch. No other allowances need to be made.

• Height (once installed): This measurement is the height of the gates from the floor to the top of the horizontal framework (allowing for a 50mm gap at the bottom for ground clearance). The scrollwork above the uppermost framework is not included within this measurement

Example Ordering Size

You must purchase gates that "fit an opening of 10ft" if your brickwork opening is 10ft.

Do Metal Posts Need to Be Installed?

If no existing support structure is in place to mount the hinges, you will need to install metal posts. When choosing these items, you must remember that additional space will be required for these components.

Example: 2 x posts that are 2" wide and gates that "fit an opening of 7ft" will require an overall width of 7ft 4".

Important Information Regarding the Winchester Double Metal Estate Gates 

Fittings: Gates are sold as a pair and each set comes with surface-mounted adjustable hinges, the latch fitting and an in-ground drop bolt. The screws required to install the hinge brackets are not included. 

Posts: Metal posts must be the correct size to provide the necessary amount of support. They must be set to the correct depth and concrete must be used to fix in-ground posts.

Installation: The hinges must only be attached to existing brickwork (or other existing substrates) if the structure can handle the weight of the gates. Please see the installation instructions for additional information.

Width: This is the size of the aperture required (between existing brickwork or posts) and does not correspond to the product's physical width. If you're not sure what this means, please click here to discover how to select the correct size gates.

Painting: The Winchester estate gates have been primed black (undercoat). This means that you must paint all surfaces before installation to prevent the onset of rust and corrosion. Alternatively, please contact us if you want to upgrade to the low-maintenance zinc plated (electro galvanised) and black powder-coated paint finish.
