Winchester Tall Metal Side Gate

The Winchester Metal Side Gate has a beautiful design that will complement a variety of property types. It is available in various sizes to suit most residential situations where installing a physical security barrier will benefit the property owner. The gate is handcrafted in the UK from solid steel components and has a 20mm x 8mm flat bar welded framework, 10mm diameter round infill bars, and 10mm x 3mm wrought iron style scrolls. It has a factory-applied black primed undercoat and is ready to be painted to the colour of your preference before installation. It also has surface-mounted adjustable hinges and a tip latch mechanism, making it quick and easy to install on your own.

• The gate is primed black with a factory-applied undercoat. You must paint all metal surfaces with a minimum of 2 coats of exterior grade paint before installation to protect against rust and corrosion.

Ordering Sizes

• Width (Fits Opening): These measurements refer to the gap width between existing walls or posts. The dimensions already include the space taken up by the hinges and latch. 

• Height (once installed): This incorporates a 50mm (2") tolerance for ground clearance. The measurement is from the ground to the top horizontal frame. It excludes the scrollwork positioned above this point.

Example Ordering Size

If the width of your brickwork opening or existing gap measurement between posts is 2ft 6", you must choose a gate built to fit a 2ft 6" opening.

Are Metal Posts Required?

You will need to add metal posts if there is no support for the hinges or latch to be mounted. Please be aware that these items will require extra space.

Example: A gate to fit an opening of 2ft 6" combined with 2 x 2" metal support posts will need an overall width of 2ft 10".

Important Information About the Winchester Metal Side Gate

Fittings: Surface-mounted adjustable hinges and a simple tip latch fitting are included in the gate's components. We do not supply the mounting screws for the latch receiver plate and hinge brackets.

Metal Posts: Only use metal posts of the proper size and strength to provide the necessary amount of support. When installing these parts, ensure they are supported using concrete and buried to the appropriate depth.

Installation: Attach the hinges to any masonry structures (or other existing posts) only if they are strong enough to hold the weight of the gate. Please refer to the installation instructions for further information.

Width: The dimensions listed under "fits opening" includes the space required for the hinges and latch. It doesn't correspond to the gate's physical width. You should read the "how to choose the correct size" webpage if you don't understand this.

Painting: The Clifton metal side gate is factory primed with a black undercoat. Before installation, paint all surfaces to prevent rust and corrosion on the steel. Alternatively, please contact us before placing your order if you'd like to upgrade to the low-maintenance electro-galvanized (zinc plated) and black powder-coated paint treatments.
