Handmade in the UK, the gates are made from Scandinavian Redwood and benefit from a smooth planed finish making them perfect for staining or painting to the desired colour before installation. Utilising a robust 70mm thick mortise and tenon jointed frames, 3 x horizontal rails, diagonal bracing and a solid tongue and groove boarded panel fitted to the bottom section and great value for money. For enhanced visual appeal, the top of each gate has open pales to allow light and wind to pass through, making them the ideal choice for any type of property.

Useful Information About the Gloucester Double Wooden Gates

Width Dimensions: Wooden driveway gates are sold as a pair. This means that the widths shown in the drop-down menu refer to the physical width of both gates (when placed side by side). Each pair comprises of the following:

• 7ft pair = 2 x 3ft 6”

• 8ft pair = 2 x 4ft

• 9ft pair = 2 x 4ft 6”

• 10ft pair = 2 x 5ft

• 11ft pair = 2 x 5ft 6”

• 12ft pair = 2 x 6ft  

Height Dimensions: The physical height is measured from the underside of the gates to the highest point. This measurement does not make any allowance for ground clearance.

Fittings: The Gloucester gates do not include hinges, latch, or drop bolt as standard. If you need to purchase these items, please choose the appropriate fitting pack from the menu above.

Posts: For optimum results we recommend using wooden posts when installing the gates. For installations where an existing support structure is present (such as brick pillars or similar support) the use of wall mounted posts is acceptable. For freestanding installations, you will need to install in ground posts to an appropriate depth to suit ground conditions. In both instances, it is important to note that the gap formed between the posts should be 40mm wider than the physical width of the gates. This is to allow sufficient space for the hinges and latch and to factor in expansion of the timber throughout the year.

Finish: The Gloucester wooden gates are constructed from untreated softwood and must be stained or painted prior to installation. Failure to carry out this treatment will result in the onset of rot and decay of the timber.

Installation: To provide adequate support to the gates we only recommend the use of hook and band hinges. If the gates are to be inward opening (onto the driveway) they should be mounted to the back of the gates and posts (the band portion should be attached to the top and bottom horizontal rails). For outward opening layouts, the hinges will need to be mounted to the front face of the gates and posts. For further information please look at our general installation guide.
