Available to buy online in a choice of sizes from 7ft – 12ft, the gates are handmade in the UK and finished with fine attention to detail, making them terrific value for money. Featuring a 70mm thick framework, they benefit from mortise and tenon joints for strength and rigidity. The horizontal rails and diagonal bracing provide additional support to prevent timber twisting and sagging. With a curved top rail for improved visual appeal, open pale section, and a vertical tongue and groove panel, they have a smooth planed finish making them ideal for staining or painting to the colour of your choice before installation, and as such, the Derbyshire double gates will enhance the driveway entrance of any property.

Useful Information About the Derbyshire Double Wooden Gates

Width Dimensions: The Derbyshire wooden driveway gates are sold as a pair and the width dimensions displayed in the drop-down box at the top of the page relate to the physical width of the pair of gates when placed next to each other. For clarity, this means that each pair will comprise of the following:

• 7ft pair = 2 x 3ft 6”

• 8ft pair = 2 x 4ft

• 9ft pair = 2 x 4ft 6”

• 10ft pair = 2 x 5ft

• 11ft pair = 2 x 5ft 6”

• 12ft pair = 2 x 6ft 

Height Dimensions: The physical height quoted in the product description above is measured from the underside of the gates to the highest point. When hanging, we recommend an allowance of 50mm (2”) for ground clearance be made however this is just a guide and may vary according to your specific driveway layout.

Fittings: The hinges, latch and drop bolt are not included as standard. If you need to purchase these items, please select the appropriate fitting pack from the options and accessories menu above.

Posts: When fitting the gates, we recommend the use of wooden posts. For installations between existing masonry structures such as brick pillars the use of wall mounted posts is the most popular choice. Where they are to be installed in any location without masonry support, the addition of in ground posts will be required. In either instance, the gap formed between the posts should be 40mm bigger than the physical width of the gates you order. This will then allow for the optimal spacing for the hinges, opening tolerances and movement of the timber throughout the seasons.

Finish: Constructed from untreated Scandinavian Redwood, the Derbyshire wooden gates must be stained or painted prior to installation. It is important to note that all exposed surfaces should be covered to ensure the best level of protection against rot and decay of the timber.

Installation: When hanging the gates, we recommend using hook and band hinges of the appropriate size to offer the best level of support. When fitting the hinges, the band section should be mounted to the horizontal rails and the corresponding hook fixed to the back of the posts (for inward opening layouts).
