Useful Information About the Carlton Wooden Estate Gates

Width Dimensions: This measurement is the actual width of the pair of gates when placed side by side. It does not relate to the width of each gate individually. For clarity, this means that each pair is made up of the following sizes:

• 1500mm pair = 2 x 750mm

• 1800mm pair = 2 x 900mm

• 2100mm pair = 2 x 1050mm

Height Dimensions: This dimension is measured from the underside of the gates to the highest point. You will therefore need to factor in a small amount of space for ground clearance when installing them. We normally recommend an allowance of 50mm (2”) but this will vary according to your driveway layout.

Fittings: The Carlton double wooden gates do not include the hinges, latch or drop bolt as standard. If you need to purchase these items, please choose a fitting pack from the options and accessories menu above.

Posts: We recommend the gates are installed using wooden posts. These should be of the appropriate size to provide adequate support. Wall mounted posts are an acceptable option if you are installing between existing brickwork however for freestanding installations you will need to use in ground posts (which should be set to a depth to suit ground conditions). To allow sufficient space for the hinges, the opening formed between the posts should be 40mm wider than the physical width of the gates.

Finish: The Carlton design is manufactured from low maintenance pressure treated timber. This process will result in the gates having a slight green tint which is normal. Over time this will weather down and become less visible.

Installation: For the optimum level of support, we recommend the Carlton gates to be installed using suitable size hook and band type hinges. These should be mounted to the top and bottom horizontal rails. For more details refer to our general installation guide.
