Useful Information About the Suffolk Wooden Estate Gates

Width Dimensions: This measurement is the actual width of both gates when placed side by side. To avoid any confusion when placing your order, this means the sizes shown in the drop-down menu at the top of the page comprise the following:

• 7ft pair = 2 x 3ft 6”

• 8ft pair = 2 x 4ft

• 9ft pair = 2 x 4ft 6”

• 10ft pair = 2 x 5ft

• 11ft pair = 2 x 5ft 6”

• 12ft pair = 2 x 6ft

Physical Height: This dimension is from the bottom of the gates to the top of the highest point. We have not included the space you will need for ground clearance as this will vary according to your driveway layout. As a guide, we usually recommend leaving a gap of around 50mm (2”)

Fittings: If you wish to purchase a compatible fitting pack (containing the hinges, latch, and drop-bolt), please choose from the options and accessories menu at the top of the page.

Posts: Wooden posts should be used to fit the gates. For installations between existing brickwork, the use of wall-mounted posts is the easiest solution. Alternatively, you will need to set the posts into the ground for any other installation type. To factor in the required space for the hinges and latch, it is essential to note that the gap formed between the posts should be 40mm wider than the width of the gates you are fitting.

Finish: The timber used to manufacture the Suffolk gates is smooth planed Scandinavian Redwood. For protection against rot and decay, all exposed surfaces must be stained or painted before installation.

Installation: You should only use the appropriate size hook and band-type hinges when installing the gates. These must be attached to the horizontal top and bottom rails for optimum support. For more details, refer to the installation guide.
